We’ve been considering developing a new name for the Flourishing Blog for a while. It was Stuart (our web developer) who suggested we give the blog it’s own identity, and I do think that it makes sense.
I’m starting to think very seriously about this blog being much bigger than a local design agency blog. In fact, I’ve been working towards this for a while, and I’m loving having you with me on my journey! I’m taking a pinch of my own advice, daring to think big and taking steps to reach my goals.
I’ve started to introduce some new columns (Elizabeth’s fabulous Big Thinking column launched last week and she has a few more in the pipeline to tide us over until she returns from maternity leave) and I’ll be launching several more over the coming weeks. I am posting even more frequently (trying to make sure I’m posting at least once a day) and we are preparing a brief to give the look of the blog a makeover in line with our goals…
Part of a different season
But the thing is that the brief for this blog is different to the brief for Flourish. When we created the Flourish brand we debated long and hard about which season we should be – the textbook said theĀ Spring colour personality, we felt more comfortable in the Autumn camp. I wanted the substance and integrity for the Flourish brand that only Autumn can bring. And the brand still feels right. That’s the beauty of colour psychology – however fickle my design tastes, I know that the method behind our magic means that the identity is right. But I digress…
The brief for this blog is all around Creativity, Inspiration and Clarity. And with those words, the season can only be Spring. Lighter colours, more clarity and a whole new look. How exciting!
But that leaves us with a bit of an issue. I think it would be very confusing to click from the Flourish website through to a blog that looked completely different but still had Flourish in the name. So I think we need a new name. (I say I think because I’ve been running this through in my mind for weeks now and I can’t be 100% certain but it does feel like the right thing to do- do let me know what you think… please?)
So from you, our lovely reader’s perspective, the blog will still be in the same place: blog.flourishstudios.co.uk. We’ll probably also buy it a new domain name that we can point at this blog (and before you get all SEO on me I shall be asking Stu of the best way to do this, don’t worry!) but it will feel very much like an inspiring, creative and easy to read magazine/ blog for small business owners. Just as you very kindly told us when we asked you what you thought…
The focus will still be branding/ business growth/ websites etc, but we need a new name to kick things off. I’d love you to vote and share your thoughts on whether you think I am going mad, or whether we’re on the right track. And any ideas for names most gratefully received…

I totally agree with your comments! I have been thinking the same thing about my blog recently – changing the blog name from the business name, but then I think of all the work that I’ve done trying to get my SEO up (on the cheap) and I get nervous. Anyway…. I will be watching your progress…
By the way, I voted ‘full bloom’. I love it
Renee
I know what you mean! Thing is, I probably won’t change my permalink structure or domain name – just the banner at the top of the blog so I’m hoping that it won’t affect the SEO too much…
