pantone colour of the year 2014

Guest Post: Colour of the Year 2014

Today on Hats Off, we’re pleased to welcome a new guest blogger! Rosie, from Cider with Rosie, is here to share the latest news from Pantone, and has brought together a few beautiful pieces from around the web featuring Pantone’s latest colour offering…

Last week, Pantone announced their colour of 2014 to be ‘Radiant Orchid’, a gloriously rich purple with a note of warm pink. It’s described in the press release as “An invitation to innovation, Radiant Orchid encourages expanded creativity and originality, which is increasingly valued in today’s society.” It featured in the SS14 collections of fashion houses and designers such as Yoana Baraschi, Juicy Couture, and Emerson by Jackie Fraser-Swan, and is part of Pantone’s wider (crazy beautiful!) Spring 2014 colour collection.

Radiant Orchid was placed in the collection as a counterpoint to the other purple shade named Violet Tulip. Violet Tulip is a far more muted shade, described by Executive Director Leatrice Eiseman as a ‘vintage purple’, evoking memories of times, and indeed colours, gone by. Though the collection, and naming of Radiant Orchid as Pantone’s colour of 2014, has only just been announced, Radiant Orchid shades can already be found cropping up in current artwork and in jewellery, clothing, and homeware collections. I’ve complied my favourite examples of Radiant Orchid pieces, and will be incorporating this beautiful colour into my wardrobe and home before 2014 even hits…
