Ian’s August Favourites

Hi I’m Ian the Account Manager at Flourish. Fiona had a great idea last week that as a team we should all have some creative input into the Flourish Blog. Once a week a different member of the team will create their own post, and I’ve been chosen to start the ball rolling! Every month I’ll be talking about the things that excite and interest me, and I hope that you find them inspiring too!

I love the way that a vintage camera can capture a feeling of nostalgia and happiness, which a digital camera can sometimes struggle with. These (top left) were taken by a Minolta SRT 201 and if I’m ever lucky to own one I’ll never moan about having to carry it about.

Aubin and Wills produce fantastic clothes, at quite fantastically high prices! I’ve been lucky to bag a few bargains in the past, and will always show off my latest tie to the gang in the studio. They have a beautiful brand, which they use effectively from their website through to their clothing tags. Following on from Fiona’s blog the ‘catalogue is back’ I would recommend signing up for their almanac, and check out the Aubin Cinema on the website.

The Avett Brothers new album I and love and You is the perfect soundtrack for the summer and I can picture myself lying in a hammock overlooking the lake like the photo next door. Originally from North Carolina, this album was recorded in Malibu, California and is a rootsy amalgam of folk, country, bluegrass, rock and pop.

As a keen amateur painter I’m always on the look out for inspiring artists. Françoise Nielly is a passionate woman who loves life, wide-open spaces, sushi, blue lagoons, the Internet, humour, books, Paris, New York and Vancouver. The colours and texture of her work really stand out for me!

These vintage Rolex oyster watches look fantastic with their colourful fabric straps. As a big watch fan I love the idea of taking an exclusive, iconic piece of design and flipping the whole look and feel on it’s head.

Two great little pens that come in very handy. The Twist & Erase pencil is a classic design and fantastic for putting your inspirations onto paper. If you ever need to address dark envelopes I recommend this TRUE opaque white pen – it works a treat!

I’ve been following Jason Munn from The Small Stakes for a while now and find his simple illustrations for the independent music scene so engaging. His market is very specialist (and some of the artists a little obscure) but I would definitely hang a poster of his with pride.

So a bit of a softy on the quiet then!

Great to hear more about what floats your boat Ian, and I’ll be sure to use it against you next time we’re negotiating!

Of course, I’m only joking, and definitely a good idea of Fiona’s for all the team to share a little more about themselves.

  2. love the album Ian! :)

  3. Fantastic post Ian, thank you for being the first one to kick things off. I’m loving the simplicity of those icons and wondering how we can use the inspiration from those watch stripes in some packaging moving forwards… Great stuff

Thanks Nicky – I’ve always been a bit of a sensitive soul and look forward to the negotiations!
