As regular readers of this blog will know, at Flourish we’re enormous fans of colour psychology. We employ our learning in every single design project that we work on and it enables us to more effectively understand our customer and their target audience, create something that’s authentic and reflective of the client’s values, and enables our client to communicate much more powerfully with their current and prospective customers.
You’ll probably have noticed that when we blog about brands we often throw in words like XYZ is a “Winter personality” or an “Autumnal business”. We’re not referring to the time that the business was started, or even when they’re at their busiest. We’re talking about the colour psychology personality that best reflects our clients’ brand values.
At Flourish we split all businesses into one of four seasons: Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. We decide on which season they fall into after a thorough analysis in the studio and following much debate within the team! This season will influence not only which tones of colour we select, but also the paper stocks, the fonts we use and the shapes we employ. Using all of these consistently means that subconsciously we can enable our clients to communicate incredibly powerfully.
Over the next few days I’d like to share with you each of the seasons – the types of business they suit and a colour palette or two that reflects each season. It’s important to note that every colour (other than black and pure white – which ONLY appear in the winter personality) apply to all seasons. So purple appears in all seasons for example – but it’ll be light and bright in Spring, delicate and muted in Summer, rich and muted in Autumn and clear and intense in Winter.
We’ll probably move on to looking at the properties of individual colours over the next few weeks as well if you lovely readers find it interesting so do let me know what you’d like to know!
